Mike Januik, Winemaker
When Mike Januik began crafting Washington wine in 1984, the region was an undiscovered frontier. As the former head winemaker for Chateau Ste. Michelle, Mike didn’t just witness the evolution of Washington wine; he drove it, pioneering Chateau Ste. Michelle’s single-vineyard and reserve programs.
Since founding Januik Winery in Woodinville in 1999, Mike has built a legacy rooted in quality winemaking, crafting balanced, expressive wines for his own label and for Novelty Hill. Over the years, his wines have earned hundreds of 90+ ratings and numerous “Top 100” honors. Wine Enthusiast magazine recognized him as one of the world’s “Masters of Merlot.”

Meet the Januiks
In the late 1970s, Mike and Carolyn Januik owned a wine shop in Ashland, Oregon that piqued Mike’s interest in winemaking. Sons Donald and Andrew were born shortly thereafter and both have early memories of long afternoons in the cellar with their dad.
By the time the Januiks started their own winery in 1999, the boys were in high school, working summers in the cellar. Fast-forward 20 years. Now Mike can no longer imagine harvest without them. And Carolyn, who’s worn every hat at the winery except winemaking, continues to keep them on course.
