Spring 2018 Platinum Cellar Circle Selections
It is our great pleasure to announce the debut release of Andrew Januik’s extremely limited 2015 Los Molinos, a GSM (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre) blend. There’s been quite a buzz around the winery since Andrew announced plans to make this beauty in 2015. At last, the time has come! This is a wine with intense aromatics and gorgeous concentrated purple fruit flavors that coat the palate creating a silky, textured mouthfeel. It’s been a wine Andrew knew he wanted to make since enjoying the spicy, fruit-forward Grenache-based blends of France and Spain while living among the windmills (los molinos) of southern Spain. Brother Don Januik illustrated the label. Only 122 cases produced and a Cellar Circle selection offered to Platinum members exclusively.
In addition to Los Molinos, Platinum members will enjoy the 2015 Novelty Hill Cascadia assembled from the finest lots of the vintage. Rich and stylish, this deeply colored Bordeaux blend offers delicious dark fruit aromas and flavors across a textured mid-palate. It is a blend of 64% Quintessence Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon selected for its lavish, concentrated, dark fruit flavors and bold tannins, 29% Stillwater Creek Vineyard Merlot chosen for it dark, saturated color and perfumed aromatics and 7% Stillwater Creek Vineyard Malbec used to enhance the wine’s balance and concentration.
Completing this spring’s Platinum selection is the 2015 Januik Champoux Vineyard Malbec. According to Great Northwest Wine, “Malbec plantings (in Washington) are ramping up, particularly in the Horse Heaven Hills, where plantings have doubled to more than 200 acres in the past half-decade.” Leading the way is Horse Heaven’s world-class Champoux Vineyard, one of winemaker Mike Januik’s favorite sites in the state for grapes that produce wines of exceptional depth, complexity and grace. This Malbec is plush and textured, brimming with ripe tannins, and a prime example of why Washington’s reputation for Malbec continues to grow.
